Ava Sylvie D'Aureville
PERSONALITY Like: animals of all kinds, teaching, feeling as though she's earning her place in the world, comfort and security, extroverts that pretty much adopt her as a friend, crocheting Dislikes: quite often people in social situations rub her up the wrong way and make her feel uncomfortable, crowds, being alone with unfamiliar people, being questioned by aurors, most middle-aged men she doesn't know, alcohol Traits: patient, giving, bit of a softy, quick learner, non-judgemental. often too shy for her own good, surrounded by an awful lot of murders ... just sayin' ... , easily manipulated especially by a charming smile, occasionally obsessive, a bit too much of a romantic idealist. Abilities: Care of Magical Creatures Professor - Ava has a deep understanding and respect for Magical creatures of all shapes and sizes. She's a trained veterinarian healer which can come in use on human's, too. While she has her fears and anxieties, they can be put aside for the sake of a sick or injured animal. Trinity D'Aureville • 33 • former hufflepuff Partner: None Exes: None Children: None Others: None TW: Sexual Assault, Death, Homelessness, Loss of a sibling, Loss of a parent, Loss of a friend, Loss of a husband, Parental abandonment The third born child of Remy and Josephine D’aureville, Ava was a younger twin and often felt overlooked and overshadowed by her older, perfect sister. Annabella was the apple of her mother’s eye and Ava always felt as though she could never live up to the perfection set out by her twin. To say Ava resented Annabella was a bit of an understatement, and she was bitter for most of her childhood, although Annabella wasn’t entirely to blame, there was a reason Annabella was the golden child and it wasn’t because she was so effortlessly perfect as Ava liked to think, it was more because Annabella stepped up and took care of their mother when their father left. At only 6 years of age Ava stole her father’s wallet after he’d stormed out. She’d always thought he’d be back to retrieve it but he never came. Day after day Ava would ask her mother when daddy would be home, he was the best daddy in the world, he gave her attention whenever she wanted it, well, he would sit beside her doing his thing while she did her thing, and he wouldn’t just leave her to mop the floors or do the dishes like her mum would. All she needed was some company, occasionally someone willing to share their chips with her, so every time her daddy left for work, Ava was heartbroken, and when he and mummy argued, Ava knew it was different and that he was never coming back. When she was 11 Ava went to Hogwarts, a place she knew existed because her older brother had been magical and he had gone there, sorted into the house of Slytherin. Ava did everything she could to avoid her sister’s cabin on the train journey. She followed her brother until he left with someone he was snogging, leaving Ava with a group of older boys she didn’t at all know so she left shortly after, searching for a place to sit but too shy and anxious to approach anyone so she spent most of her time ambling up and down the carriage until the train finally came to a stop at Hogsmeade station. Bored senseless, Ava made her way with the other students, not hearing the call for the first years. When she got to the carriages she was turned back around by the janitor and sent off to the boats. She climbed in the last boat on the shore, it was empty and damp and smelt of fish. Ava’s nose was scrunched for the entire lonely journey across the lake, the other boats all much farther ahead and leaving choppy waters in their wake. Twice Ava leant over the edge of the boat and threw up. She hated everything about her trip to Hogwarts and when her boat finally docked she slipped and her left foot missed the dock, slipping into the icy cold lake. She followed the stairs up from the lake to the castle, quite a bit behind the other students. She tried to hurry to catch up and fell, grazing the palms of her hands on the mud covered stone steps. She wiped her hands on the inside of her cloak and carried on as fast as she could to try and catch up with her year group. Eventually she walked into the great hall, managing to only be 30 seconds after everyone else but far more breathless and dishevelled. She looked at her palms which were bloodied and muddy and shoved her hands into her robes pockets while she waited her turn to be called. Eventually Annabella was called and placed in Gryffindor. Ava didn’t care what house she was in, just so long as it wasn’t Gryffindor. She didn’t want to be in her sister’s shadow, if she was in her own house then she’d have the chance to shine alone, but would she ever have the confidence to actually step into the spotlight? Ava wasn’t sure, but she wanted the chance to, at least. Ava approached the Sorting Hat while D went to her new house. Ava went and took her place at the Ravenclaw table, unable to hold back her small smile at the applause she got as she joined them. During her years at Hogwarts Ava joined the choir because it was the only club Annabella hadn’t joined. It was something Ava enjoyed but she didn’t make any friends in it. She just blended in, her voice filling out the harmony of the group. She wanted so badly to have a solo but she never spoke up, she never put herself forward, and instead stayed where she was in the group, sour that no one put her forward or recognised that she was the most talented in the group. Were they morons?! Most definitely. Ava didn’t make Prefect and didn’t make Head Girl, that was all Annabella’s domain, but Ava continued in the choir, happy to have her own little slice of solitude that her sister couldn’t ruin. After Hogwarts life became even more difficult. Ava rejected the idea of becoming a Healer, the only career path she’d ever wanted, because that was the career her sister had chosen, and Ava couldn’t contemplate being anywhere near that witch when she didn’t have to be. Ava had passed her NEWTs with quite excellent grades although no direction in life thanks to her sister ruining her dreams, so Ava got a job at a gardening supply store in Knockturn Alley. She moved into an apartment above the store with a co-worker that watched her whenever she was home or at work and left her feeling all too uneasy. After three months at her job Ava quit for a cleaning job in Gringotts. It wasn’t glamorous but it was better than dealing with plants that tried to strangle her all day. Still living above the garden shop in Knockturn Alley and still with the same housemate, Ava never dated. She only ever had a crush on one guy her whole life to the point she was infatuated with him, obsessed. She wanted desperately for him to notice her, to ask her out but he only had eyes for one other - Annabella. Yet another reason Ava despised her sister. She had all the luck in life while Ava, who believed herself almost equally talented to her sister, had nothing but misfortune. She was angry with life and life only kicked her once more while she was down. Returning home after her night shift at Gringotts, Ava noticed her flatmate had company. Loud, boisterous, drinking and smoking heavily she decided she didn’t want to be anywhere near them. Ava retreated to her room, keeping out of their way. At a quarter past one Ava cautiously ventured out of her room to the kitchen in search of food. The friends had all gone but her flatmate remained on the sofa, drinking, smoking, tidying up from his games. When he noticed Ava making herself a sandwich he drunkenly stumbled into the kitchen and started groping her, knocking her food and the knife to the floor. Ava asked him to stop, she pushed his hands away from her body but he just kept grabbing, pushing her backwards until she slipped on a fallen piece of lettuce. Ava was smaller than him, he was five times bigger than her, stronger and he overpowered her as she tried to get away from him, to stand herself up. He had her pinned to the floor with his forearm while she wriggled and screamed, trying to fight her way to freedom, trying to reach for her wand that had fallen to the ground but it was out of reach. She stretched and her fingers grazed the handle of a sharp kitchen knife as she felt him against her, pressing. With one final attempt at pushing herself free of him, Ava managed to clasp her hand on the knife and she plunged it into his chest, accidentally cutting her forearm in the process. He bellowed in pain and slapped her but Ava just stabbed at him again and again and again until he fell on top of her, his final breath rushing past her ear, hot and stale. His blood pooled out over her as she continued to scream. Her neighbours from below, awoken by the screaming and the noises knocked on her apartment door with urgency, Ava screamed for help and burst down the door and hurried to her aid. Her flatmate was dead, she was taken to St. Mungo’s, where her sister was thankfully no longer working, and then she was taken in for questioning. After two days in St Mungo’s and with the hit wizards, Ava returned to her home only to discover her things strewn out on the back path. She gathered up what she could and made her way to the door. Her landlord told her to ‘fuck the hell off’. Ava dropped her things, taking only a few essentials and her work uniform, knowing she was going to have to ask if she could spend the night in the staff room until she could find accommodation, the last of her money had been spent on the months rent and she was broke until her next paycheck but when she arrived at Gringotts she was informed she no longer had a job there as she’d missed two of her shifts without giving notice. Ava was lost at what to do. She had no friends, and she didn’t speak to any of her family. She tried reaching out to her mum but she had no answer. She paid a visit to the family home but her mother was no longer living there and Ava had no idea of where she was. Ava reached out to David who said he didn’t have the space for her and that was all. She tried Trinity but she never responded, and Annabella? Ava was desperate, she tried to reach out to her sister but she was nowhere to be found. For just over 12 months Ava was homeless, scavenging for food wherever she could. She thought of selling her body or dating guys just for a free meal or warm bed but she just couldn’t be near men or anyone that desired any form of intimacy. Her fate changed when she passed out in a back alley near Knockturn Alley due to starvation and she was taken to St Mungo’s. She awoke in a brightly lit room with an overly chatty room mate that introduced herself as Clara. Clara spoke a lot which Ava didn’t mind as she didn’t really want to talk at all. The two got on surprisingly well and Clara invited Ava to come live with her. She was a widow and having heard bits and pieces of Ava’s story from the Healers in passing, she felt as though she could offer Ava safety for as long as she needed. Ava, who believed herself cursed, was apprehensive, but what choice did she really have? Return to the streets where she’d nearly died? Ava agreed and thanked Clara. For years the two lived together. Clara was Ava’s first friend and best friend. Clara was a wealthy widow with no other family, she’d been an only child and her husband had died under suspicious circumstances. Clara had been investigated but cleared of suspicion. What was more mysterious was that her husband’s study was locked after his death and Clara was entirely unable to get into it, as were other people. Clara was lovely, Ava thought she was an angel, but had she killed her husband? Ava didn’t know and wasn’t one to judge or press on the issue, after all she didn’t exactly have a clean slate. Ava lived a happier life, she and Clara were extremely close friends. Ava didn’t feel right living on someone else’s knut and she got a job in a pet store along Diagon Alley. She watched and trained with the vet and after a few years she herself became a qualified veterinarian to magical animals. It wasn’t the life she had envisioned for herself, but it was just as good, if not better. She was in a place helping to bring a little comfort to those without voices. She missed her family and now had the resources to track them down. She learnt that her mother had resorted to drinking and passed away a couple of years ago after drinking too heavily and falling down the stairs of her local bar, her father was still lost to the wind, and her sister the one she’d always despised, was dead, struck down with dragon pox of all things. So it was just her, her older brother, and her younger sister, both of whom had turned their backs on her. Ava contemplated reaching out to them but they had never reached out to her, they’d neer even helped her in her time of absolute desperation. Life seemed good but of course there was more tragedy around the corner for Ava. In February, 2020 Ava came home from work to find Clara sprawled out in the entrance of her home, she wasn’t breathing and there didn’t seem to be any signs of foul play. Clara was limp, lifeless, and cold. The Aurors came and Ava was questioned. Clara was taken to the morgue at St Mungo’s while Ava was taken to the Ministry and questioned at great length. Ava was released but the Auror in charge of the case made sure Ava knew that he was keeping an eye on her. A month after Clara was buried, Ava was approached by Clara’s lawyers. They informed Ava that she was the sole beneficiary of Clara’s entire estate. Clara’s husband had been incredibly wealthy, but Ava hadn’t known just how wealthy until it all became hers. Ava didn’t know what to do, she contemplated selling the mansion but she couldn’t let go of anything related to Clara, and the mystery of the locked study still intrigued Ava, what was in there? Ava kept the mansion but moved out of it, it didn't feel right living there. She bought a house elf, Kookie, to keep the place tidy and free of any problems. Ava moved far away to Hogsmeade, Scotland. She bought a little cottage and after a little while got a job at Hogwarts as their Care of Magical Creatures professor and has been in the position for 7 years. She rarely goes back to the mansion but she pays it a visit every now and then, having left it exactly the way Clara had it. Life is neither good nor bad these days, it’s certainly a lot better than what she’d been used to and she gets on with some of her colleagues quite well, she even has a few friends, but she yearns for love, any kind of love, more than anything.
