TW: DEATH IN CHILDBIRTH Born to a magical father and a muggle mother, Leo was the eldest of five children. He was terrible at being a big brother because he had a whole three years of being an only child used to getting his own way. When his sister came along, Leo didn't like it all that much. It wasn't until the Drake family was too big for the house they lived in that he had grown used to his role in the clan. He was to protect his siblings. It was his job to set an example and teach them right from wrong through his own choices in life, and it was his job to make sure they were all ok. "Go and watch your sister while she plays in the garden." "Go and help your brother get dressed after his bath." "Come and rock the baby to sleep while I put tea on." His mother did everything the muggle way, and Leo admired her strength, especially when his own magic came in when he was eight. She did everything the hard way, and watched her husband and kids have a much easier time of it with magic and wands, yet she never complained. She enjoyed her job as a dinner lady at the local muggle primary school, and she enjoyed raising her kids and being there for them. They didn't have much, but Leo wanted for nothing, not really. He didn't need fancy things or posh clothes to get by in life. He went to muggle school and wore the same uniform as all the other kids, and if anyone dared comment on the Drakes not having much money, he punched them right in the face and dared them to speak about his family in such a way again. They usually kept quiet after that, and Gods help them if they said anything about his siblings. When he was eleven, he was the first to venture off to Hogwarts. Sorted into Slytherin house, he wasn't sure what to make of it at first. His dad had been in Ravenclaw, a smart man who earned a decent wage working in a local book shop in London. Slytherin had never really been on Leo's radar, and yet there he was, wearing green and sleeping in the dungeons. It wasn't all that bad. He made friends in all houses, and put anyone who dared question his lack of "pure blood" in their place without hesitation. He gained a reputation as being someone you shouldn't mess with. Only because he had no choice, and as each of his siblings joined him at school, his reputation skyrocketed that bit more. He'd kill for them if he had to, not that he wanted to do such a thing, but Leo knew his temper would take control if he was ever pushed to those kinds of limits. He often feared that he'd get expelled for the fights he got into. He did alright in lessons, nothing special but he flew under the radar, not exactly failing any subjects. He enjoyed art. Magical art was just something else, and he dreamed of becoming an artist one day, selling his work, maybe making his millions if he got really good at it. He spent his school days drawing or painting, sitting on his own out in the grounds for a bit of peace away from the tumultuous world he'd built for himself, and snogging pretty girls, because why not? His confidence as he got older was somewhat appealing, apparently, and he was never short of someone to sneak into a broom closet with, though he was careful about letting himself get attached to anyone. It was after he graduated that he let his guard down, and he has regretted it ever since. He met a gorgeous woman with the shiniest red hair, charmed the pants off her, and then realised that he was in too deep when it turned out she was a thief and wanted murderess, having spent some time in Azkaban already at the tender age of twenty three. Leo was working as a bartender at the Leaky Cauldron at that point, having jumped from odd job to odd job before landing in what he thought was something more stable. Pouring drinks wasn't glamorous but it paid the bills and gave him opportunity to sit in corner booths and draw unsuspecting customers. This redhead took him by surprise, and he realised he was in too deep when he didn't care about her reputation. He was in love. What did it matter that she was a criminal? Well, it mattered a lot when, after five crazy years together, she fell pregnant with his child. She was still up to her old tricks, despite him trying to get her to curb her ways. Little Atticus was born under a full moon in the middle of a park, his mother having gone into early labour thanks to robbing a muggle jewellery shop a few blocks away. She'd made a run for it and the labour pains had come on strong and fast. She couldn't make it to a hospital, and the blood was everywhere. By the time Leo got to her, she was barely conscious, their tiny son screaming on her chest. He got them both to the hospital in time to save his son's life, but Atticus lost his mother that night. Leo was devastated. He fell into a very dark place for quite a while, the only thing keeping him going was his son, who needed him more than ever. Leo would never let Atticus down, he vowed so that night in the park, and he did everything he could to raise his son alone, taking on extra shifts at the Leaky Cauldron, and relying heavily on his parents and siblings for help. Atticus is now six, a happy and healthy child, even if raised by a rebel with a attitude problem, and Leo recently sold his first piece of art for an okay amount of money. Life is good.
