The wizarding world has come a long way since the demise of Lord Voldemort. Peace reigned for many years, generations of magical children being raised in a happy, healthy world with no threat of violence or death if their blood wasn't pure enough. The magical community thought it was safe, thought all was well and would remain so for the foreseeable future. That was until the magical gene pool started dwindling in the United Kingdom. Each year, less and less students were taken into Hogwarts, and eventually, the Ministry had no choice but to step in. They implemented a marriage rule that no one was safe from. Anyone who wasn't already married would be eligible for Ministry Matching. A tool used to force magical folk together, if they did not marry, they would face Azkaban. The couples matched by the Ministry have to live together, they are encouraged to produce as many children as possible, and they cannot divorce.

The regime came in hard and fast, shocking the magical population. Most fell in line, fearing the consequences, but a few pureblooded families came together to form a rebellion. They did not want their children, who were already a rare and dying breed, mixing with mudbloods and being forced to marry people who they deemed to be beneath them. This uprising spread in certain circles, led by one individual whose identity has, so far, never been discovered, they are ruthless in their determination to avoid the marriage law, going so far as to kill muggleborns and blood traitors. Together with their followers they have formed the new Death Eaters, and they will not back down. But, neither will the ministry. Either you marry, or you rot in Azkaban.
