• An Animagus is a witch or wizard who can morph into an animal at will. This means it is a very hard skill to master, and takes a long time to get right, so if you have this rare ability, it will have taken you a good while, and a lot of hard work to gain it.
• All Animagi must be registered with the Ministry. Illegal Animagi, once found out by authorities in the Ministry, will be sentenced to time in Azkaban.
• An Animagus form is not chosen by the person, it is meant to be a reflection of a person's inner self, so the animal you turn into should represent your character well, rather than just being something you think looks cool.
• If you wish your character to have a second animagus form, you must first talk to admins and your character must have reasons for the second form. A second form is harder to attain than the first.
• Being an Animagus is not hereditary, meaning it does not run in families. If you are one, it is because you have taken the time to learn to be one.

Flying
• •
• This is similar to what Dumbledore and Voldemort were able to do. The ability to fly without a broom is a tricky one, that not everyone can do.
• It takes quite a bit of skill to learn this, and even more bravery, as it can be a little scary. But yes, the name pretty much sums it up in a nutshell, you can fly without a broom!
• Students would not learn this well until they were out of school. It would be difficult to master, so they would be in the learning process, and not even close to being great at it.
• This is not something that is taught in school, so your character will have learned it somewhere else, such as a family member or older friend.

Legilimens
• •
• Desdemona Emilia Ann Lestrange - expert •
• Molly May Weasley II - expert •
• Legilimency is basically, the ability to read another person's thoughts. It is also the ability to manipulate and influence those thoughts, once you have reached them. Sounds good, but trust me, it's not that simple.
• For a start, a person's mind is a complicated thing, with billions of layers to trawl through. To master the art of Legilimency, you will have to learn how to sift through all of these layers to find what you are looking for, and then make sense of it, somehow.
• It goes without saying that this is an extremely difficult ability to master, and it takes an awfully long time to get good at it. So as with Occlumency, students will have a lot of hard work ahead of them, and they won't be perfect at it.
• This also is not something that is generally taught at Hogwarts, so, your character will probably have learned it from an older family member or friend or tutor, or they were born with this special ability, although that is extremely rare.
• Students will not be able to perform this without a wand, as it takes a ridiculously long time to reach a point where you can perform this act just by thinking the spell.
• In general, when performed properly, this should work on most people once mastered. The exceptions being those who have mastered Occlumency [see below]. It will obviously be more or less of a struggle, depending on the mind you are trying to penetrate.
• You can be born with this gift. The more you use it, the more it becomes second nature and you don't even realise you're using it.

Metamorphmagi
• •
• Jovian Amara Corrine Avery •
• A Metamorphmagus is a person with the ability to change their physical appearance at will. This is a hereditary ability that runs in families, and it is very rare.
• Metamorphmagi can alter any part of their appearance at any time, even changing things like gender and age at will. They can look like anyone, or anything, whenever they feel like it. A lot of them just choose to alter simple things like their eyes, nose, or hair colour, things like that to make themselves look 'better', in their eyes.
• This ability is usually apparent from birth, and the person will have inherited it from a family member somewhere along the lines, as there is no other way to become one.

Occlumens
• •
• Wilhelmina A. I. Lestrange - expert •
• Occlumency is the act of magically closing one's mind to Legilimency [see above]. It stops a Legilimens from being able to access your thoughts and feelings, and influence them.
• This is a very rare and difficult skill to master, and it is not taught at Hogwarts, generally. So if your character has this ability, they will have learned it somewhere else, maybe from an older family member or friend or tutor, or they were born with the ability but hat is extremely rare. It takes a long time to master this skill, so any students possessing it, will not be exceptionally good at it, and they will falter at times, and still be in the learning process.
• Upon first learning this skill, you will need to use your wand. This especially goes for students. Only people who have been practising it for a very, very long time will be able to use this kind of magic by just thinking the spell.
• You can be born with this gift. The more you use it, the more it becomes second nature and you don't even realise you're using it.

Parseltongue
• Desdemona Emilia Ann Lestrange •
• A Parselmouth is a person who can speak to serpents. This is a very rare ability, though it is hereditary, so it is not something that is learned, it is something a person is born with.
• It is widely believed that only Dark Wizards can speak this language. And though doubt was cast into many minds when the innately good Harry Potter was discovered to be a Parselmouth, it is something that is best kept quiet. A lot of people with this trait keep it a secret, or only share it with trustworthy friends or family.

Patronus
• •
• Wilhelmina A. I. Lestrange - corporeal - talking •
• Very complicated magic that requires your happiest memory - students wouldn't be able to perform without private lessons. They may be able to cast a non-corporeal Patronus.
• You cannot control what form your patronus takes, it will be the creature most like yourself.
• Your patronus can change based on your emotions if they are strong enough - like when Tonks's changed to a wolf because of her love and heartbreak at being pushed away by Remus.
• With even more practice and dedication, you can give your patronus your voice to send messages - this is very difficult and rare, even for those able to cast a corporeal patronus.

Seers
• •
• Seers, much like Sybil Trelawney, have the ability to see the future, or in some cases, the past, and are probably a damn sight better than Sybil, to be fair.
• Generally speaking, Seers are frowned upon and rejected by society, since people think they are mostly liars looking for attention. Of course there are a couple of well known ones who are taken more seriously, but for the most part, if you tell people you have this ability, you'll be laughed at.
• This isn't really something you can force into existence. It's a case of, either you have the gift within you, or you don't. If you're not sensitive to it, you pretty much won't have a hope in hell of becoming a Seer. So, that being said, it can run in families, and be passed down through generations, though it is entirely possible for someone to just have the right mind and sensitivity for it.
• This is covered in Divination at school, but a lot of students struggle with it, and it is not taught in too much depth, unless a student wishes to seek help from their Professor with it, outside of lessons.
• With a lot of our abilities, students are still in the learning process, but this does not always apply here. Seers can be great even when they're young. If you have the ability in you, then it doesn't matter what age you are, so students can be just as good at it as adults.

Vampires
• •
• Genevieve •
• Jonathan Kane •
• Thomas Ambrose Bellamy •
• Vampires also exist in Harry Potter, but, like werewolves, they are feared and wild. So we put our own spin on them, too. Well, sort of. Think along the lines of (but not exactly) The Vampire Diaries (TVD) because Chase is obsessed and has recently got Cas in on the action, finally!
• Vampires cannot go out in the sunlight. They do die if you stake them through the heart. However, they have no issues with holy water, crosses or garlic, and they don't sleep in coffins. 'Kay?
• They also don't sparkle. FTR.
• They have all of the usual vampire abilities, super strength, speed, blood drinking, being able to compel others, shiny fangs, etc. but try not to flaunt it in everyone's face. It should not be general knowledge that your character is a vampire, so most people should be oblivious to their condition.
• They don't be turning into bats, ya got that? Good.
• Vampires can reproduce, but only the males. A female vampire does not possess the working body parts to carry a child in her womb, but a male vampire may impregnate a human woman. The result of this is half-vampire children, which are explained below.
• A vampires bite is addictive. A toxin is released into the victims bloodstream and triggers one heck of an endorphin rush, although you're not going to feel it if a vampire drains you immediately, but if they're to take their times, then oooooh mama!
• Vampires can taste variations in blood. They can taste illnesses, they can taste how magical an individual is, they can taste what you've had for lunch. They cannot taste where someone is from or their race.
• Vampires are not permitted at Hogwarts unless permission is granted before hand by the headmaster.
• Vampires can feed on animals but human blood suits their tastes better. Animals cannot sustain a vampire for as long as a human could and a vampire will not be at full strength feeding from animals alone.
• Vampires that were born magical still have their magic and can learn more magic just like everyone else. They have no advantages or help in this area, and are the equal of any other witch or wizard.
• A werewolf bite will infect and kill a vampire within 24 hours. No arguments. If you want to get around this, either be nice to the wolves, or avoid them.
• Vampires and werewolves are natural enemies, but you don't have to stick to this if you don't want to. It's up to you who your character wants to befriend. They both have the ability to kill the other, though, so it's all fair, really. But, no killing other people's characters!! You know how it goes. Just because they have the ability to, doesn't mean it's allowed.
• If you want to kill any of your own characters off in this way, speak to an admin about it to let us know, and in that case, it's usually fine.
• Vampires can eat food to keep up appearances but it tastes like cardboard and other bland, icky-yucky things.
• Vampires can get drunk if they drink a lot, however the buzz wears of quickly and they won't be left with a hangover due to their ability to heal quickly.

Part-Vampires
• •
• Vampires also exist in Harry Potter, but, like werewolves, they are feared and wild. So we put our own spin on them, too.
• A part-vampire is a being with both human and vampire traits. Part-vampires are therefore a type of half-breed, with human and vampire ancestors.
• Part-vampires can walk in the sunlight, eat food like other humans and require it to sustain them, and have a human lifespan. They are susceptible to illness and every other human ailment.
• They posses strength, speed, fast healing, and enhanced senses from their vampire parent, though they are not as strong/fast/etc as a full vampire would be.
• Half-vampires do not drink blood when hungry, though it is sometimes required to help them heal when they are particularly ill or injured. Drinking blood speeds up the healing process for them, and gives them quite the high afterwards.

Part-Veela
• •
• Unlike full-blooded Veela, these will only have mild characteristics of the race. For example they will not turn into harpies when angry, and they will not be nearly as temperamental and easily angered as their ancestors, although it does depend on how much Veela they have in them, for example a half-veela will be more temperamental than a quarter-veela.
• Part-Veela can be half, quarter, or even less than that, it just means that somewhere along the line, one of their magical family members married a Veela. Veela never marry Muggles, so people with this trait will come from a Pureblood, or Half-blood lineage.
• Part-Veela characters will be very alluring to the opposite sex, in general, as this trait, though not as strong as the original form, will still be present to a degree. This cannot be turned off, and is ever present in their lives. It's just how they are. A part of their appearance.
• Their hair is also magical, and has a wonderful glow about it, whatever it's colour. Veela hair is often used in Wandlore, as cores, though part-Veela's hair would not have the same potency.
• When Veela dance, it is hypnotic to men, and they often use it as a tool. This will be the same for any part-veela characters we have here, though again, not with the same sort of powerful effect. Everything will be muted down to a certain degree.
• In general, Veela are women, but on The Darkest Timeline, we are bending the rules a little, and making it so that Part-Veela boys have all of the same traits as the girls, as it's only fair.

• Wandless Magic is taught in the sixth and seventh years of Hogwarts but not all students adapt well to it. Many are capable of a few basic spells.
• Most magical people are capable of Wandless Magic in extreme circumstances - think of a mother pulling her car off her baby, kind of instinct and adrenalin.

Werewolves
• •
• Now, there are werewolves in Harry Potter, but they are generally mistrusted and feared, due to their vicious nature. Due to this, we are adding our own spin on werewolves, so they can integrate more into society.
• Putting this up high so it's not forgotten! The Wolfsbane potion that makes transformations easier on the Werewolf, has NOT been invented yet, but it's in the works.
• Werewolves can only turn during a full moon. This is a very painful process, and can only really be described as "every single bone in your body breaking at once". That's what it feels like. So most wolves don't look forward to changing.
• There is a way to ease this process a little, and gain a small bit of control. Drinking Wolfsbane potion the evenings leading up to the full moon is known to help, though it's difficult to get hold of it without revealing what you are to people.
• You cannot stop yourself from turning on the full moon. It is impossible. End of story.
• You cannot transform into your werewolf form at will through the rest of the month.
• Werewolves can only be killed by silver bullets. Or by vampires, who are strong enough to do the deed *heart and head*. This goes for their wolf form, and their human form.
• Werewolves usually have temper issues, and are hot-headed in general, as a side-effect of their inner wolf.
• This is a hereditary trait, so anyone with a werewolf parent will have the gene lying dormant in them, waiting to be triggered. This triggering can happen at any time, and is completely random. After that point, there's no going back. It's wolf-dom for you every full moon.
• You can also become a werewolf by being bitten by one. Or even scratched by a werewolf on a full moon. Any wolf germs getting into your blood stream will pass the condition on.
• You may not kill other people's characters when in wolf form. So don't even think about it, it's just not fair on everyone else.
• Leading up to, and after, a full moon, a werewolf's senses are heightened, this includes smells, hearing, taste. They could tell if someone near by is another werewolf, or a vampire etc.

Part-Werewolves
• •
• When a werewolf has a child there is a chance that their child will be born with werewolf-like tendencies such as enjoying their meat a little on the rare side but they will not transform into a werewolf.
• Some have a very tough time during a full moon and become extremely agitated, they tend to want to spend this time outside and running around.
• Those who may be scratched by a werewolf while they would not be considered a half-werewolf they can develop wolf like tendencies.
• If bitten by a werewolf on the full moon they will become a full werewolf just as if a normal person was bitten.
• Half-werewolves have no extra abilities.
