The Newbie Guide

Hi beautiful newbies! We're so excited that you're thinking of joining us! This is just the first stop along your journey. Here we'll have an easy order you can follow to check things out. Naturally this is just a guide and not what you have to do. Check out the site at your own pace and have fun! <3


This is a list of places to start you off. Navigating a new site can be tricky, but never fear, we got you!



So naturally you want to check that this is the sort of place for you. We've not got a lot happening yet, but we'll get there! Our site plot is going to focus around the marauders (once we get them, particularly James).



So you like the look of the plot and you're thinking of joining, great! But first you need to check out the rules. We know they're a bit boring and Cas likes to ramble her arse off, but once you get through them you might feel deserving of a cookie or five, and who doesn't love that!



Congratulations if you made it through the rules, they were tedious but pretty basic. So now feel free to check out the timeline. Here we list every thread with its date so we know what order everything's happening in. It's fairly straightforward and self-explanatory so I feel confident you'll know what's up, plus if you have the urge to check out any old or ongoing threads, look no farther! They're all there!




So that's all for getting familiar with the site, so onto making a character!



I don't know about you, but my first stop once I've decided I like a site is to check and see if my favourite face claim is available, so check out the claims, and if you need to make a reservation then go for it!



Maybe you have a character already in mind, maybe you want to start fresh, but the Want Ads is a great place if you're looking to slip into a family or pre-existing mini-plots! Maybe your charrie will fit in with what's needed, or maybe you'll want to snag one of our pretty little wants to create a whole new brain baby!



Now this isn't a canon canon list, this is our Site canon list. It include canon families and if there isn't already a member of the family taken, then ages are up to the player. We've tried to leave a lot of it blank so you all can pick and choose how you want to create the perfect family for your character.



So gather round young ones, for here you will find the sacred application form! Copy and paste the code somewhere safe and then fill it in, and we have some more bits to help below! But back to the app; it requires two images. The first is 500x100 and looks best with a gif. If you need to chop a gif down to size then I recommend ezgif.com and then Save your new image because Ezgif is not a good host-mosty, it deletes the images made after about 20 minutes, so best to immediately upload it to your regular image hosting sight!. And the second is 600x400, so best look for your Celebrity in a photoshoot or something glamorous and high quality, and then shaping it to the size you need with the aforementioned site, if you need it.



If you're thinking of making someone that was on the quidditch team back in their school days, or perhaps a Prefect for their house, then you need to make sure there wasn't already someone in the position you're after, or maybe you want to match your new character up to be the same year as someone else, whatever the reason, the School Records is a good place to get thorough.



If you're questioning personality or what birthday you should give your character, then the Birthdays and Astrology page might be able to give you a little help!



So there's not a whole lot of info that's canon about the HP world and so we've put a twist on a few things. Pre-approval is NOT needed, so just go ahead and make your character the way you envision them, but remember - no Stus or Sues and everyone needs a flaw or two.



If you're making an adult with a job, then you might need to check the job is available!



Finally, once you've created your little brain baby, create your account with your character's first name or most commonly used nickname. After that head into your profile and add your pretty images, change your display name to your character's name, and post them here in the Application board. One of the admins will be reading it over and obsessively gushing about your character in no time!




So you've been accepted! Huzzah! The next steps are pretty easy.



That's right! Create your own OOC account using your preferred Alias for here at Wicked Fate. Add some pretty pictures and gifs, get creative with it!



Next is the job nobody likes, filling out your claims. Fill out all of them or just fill out the ones you feel are necessary for your character. We love the animal personality one, even if it's just for funsies!



Time to PLOT!! Mwahahahah! *ahem* So once you're all set to go, the first place you might want to pop into is the plotting board. You can create your own plot page and plot in others pages, although as a newbie we know that can be a bit intimidating, so don't worry too much, admins will definitely come to you with some plot ideas.



The best way to keep track of all your amazing threads is with a Tracker! Post your own here and never forget a thread again! Unless you're like us, in which case if you forget; you're not alone xD



Sometimes you just need to touch base with your inner muse for your characters. Here's a safe space for you to post your characters muse boards.



If there's anything else you want for your character, you can post it here! We use this space for out thread templates, but you could use it for just about anything you like!



Now you're all set up and ready to jump into threads, feel free to check out what open threads there are on the site, or post your own here!
