 PICTURE US DANCING REAL CLOSE in a dark, dark corner of a basement party Ty sipped his hot chocolate, standing next to the doorway of the bakery he'd just come out of. Every time the door opened the warmth from inside would hit him and warm him up, the heat fading after thirty seconds, when the door would open once again and repeat the process. He could have sat inside to enjoy his drink, but he knew if he sat still for even fifteen minutes, he'd annoy himself to death, brain ticking overtime trying to think of what he should buy his fiancee for Christmas. No. Standing outside in the cold with the bitter air keeping him on his toes, watching people rushing by, hurrying to and fro, lost in their own worlds, that's what would help him figure it out. His eyes ticked over shopping bags and clothes people wore, noting where they'd been and looking for ideas that way. He knew Nova would like anything expensive and shiny, but he didn't want to get her just any old thing, it had to be something from the heart. He had all month to find the perfect gift, but he'd rather get it done and dusted early so he didn't have to worry about it. Ty wrapped both hands around his hot paper cup, lost in thought. |

this opportunity only comes once in a life time It had been the most boring day Ria had ever experienced in her life. Well not really, but she felt irritated sitting at home alone with nothing to do. There was no practice for work, there was no hot neighbour to talk to, there weren't any friends to hang out with so she decided to go Christmas shopping. The masses were getting into the spirit and dipping into their pockets. Ria was one of them. She had a few of cute, stocking-filler gifts for some of her friends, and a naughty little something for her neighbour, but there wasn't anything really spectacular in any of her bags. She figured she might get herself a warm coffee, her fingers were beginning to freeze, but she spotted Ty standing near the bakery, hugging his own warm drink with his fingers, and so she decided to say hi, "Hey good lookin'!" and there was no denying he was a damn knockout. "What are you doing lurking about a bakery door?" |

PICTURE US DANCING REAL CLOSE in a dark, dark corner of a basement party "Alexandria!" Ty beamed at the cute blonde that approached him with confidence. Ria had worked at his father's lounge for a while, and Ty made it his business to be on first name terms with all of the staff there. His dad wasn't the most talkative man, but Ty knew that keeping your staff sweet was a key part in running a well-oiled company. He was happy to keep up with the social side of things for his dad. It only meant he got to hang around at the lounge regularly and watch the performances with free drinks. His mates loved tagging along. "Have you ever heard of people watching?" Of course she had, but it was the only way to explain why he was lurking outside the bakery door like a lost soul. Those passing by were helping him with his task without even realising what they were doing, or that he was even there in the first place. He was pretty sure he'd become one with the door he'd been standing there that long. |

this opportunity only comes once in a life time Ria had thought that Ty would be a busy man these days. He was a healer in charge of his own ward which took a lot of time and dedication, he had Christmas coming up which meant Christmas shopping like the rest of them, and, of course, his wedding to Nova wasn't too far into the future and couldn't be coming cheap or without its stresses. Ria didn't think the man could afford the time to stand around and watch people passing by, especially not in the bitter cold. "Is that your plan for the day then? People watch until that fine arse of yours freezes off?" Or, perhaps, a little time to zone out was precisely what he needed. |

He gave her a curious look. She was a similar age to Nova, and though being female did not mean she had the same interests, she was very much of the opposite sex, and therefore likely able to predict what Ty's fiancee might like for Christmas with a tiny bit more accuracy than he could ever hope for. He was loathe to admit that he was clueless, but in this instance, he absolutely was and he needed all the help he could get. "Are you busy? Perhaps you could help me with the most difficult task I've ever taken on in my life." He was not being dramatic. Ty would rather perform some seriously risky and tricky healing spells on a patient that was on death's door than go shopping with no real clue as to what he should be buying. |

Now Ria could get behind that, and as he asked for her help in the most difficult task he'd ever undertaken, she knew instantly that it had to involve Nova, though was it buying her a gift or trying to break the relationship off? Ria had no idea but she was in, whatever it was he wanted help with. "You know I love a challenge! What are we doing - gift giving or breaking up? Both pretty terrifying in their own ways." Though, in hindsight, Ria figured that if Ty was planning on breaking up with Nova, he probably wouldn't want her advice on it. Eh, hindsight was always 20/20. |
